Faraway into the land of the indistinct, the realm of sleep mumbles its incantations, drowsy and incoherent - rudderless, we step into these waters nightly with careless enterprise. One could say it is an act of total faith to give way to the intoxicating slumber ahead of us nightly.
For some, there are frightening aberrations, who with a speeding heart and moribund dread, the ghouls encircle the worries that beg to be heard. And the mind although fatigued is unwilling to surrender its taut repetitions.
Similar to a rebellious shaking dog, stubborn to the leash, obstinate to move forward, the insomniac shall not surrender their worldly consciousness with the peacefulness that is generally required.
The previous day calls to them to be seen and heard in ways that they have missed or ignored. How can one move forward and through the gates of sleep leaving behind the treasures so gathered?
This is one of the reasons that the nightly practice of recall: reviewing the day is so thoroughly practical. Every day spent within the physical world is so prized from the spiritual perspective, it is important to receive and reflect and acknowledge the gifts of the day just passed.
Our friends who are not embodied comprehend life - physical life - very differently. The trials of concern although apparent, are not the features of the extravaganza that daily waking presents.
After death when the soul reviews their life it is experienced then, as our spiritual fellows experience it with us now.
In many ways their watching on and becoming witness to our lives helps our own self build a catalogue - an album of sorts, for further insights.
We (all of us) can miss so much when it comes to the experiences of self and the physical world. Every interaction, thought and colour, intention and then kindness, revelation, sanctification, enables both the world and ourselves - doing our part in the formation of the future world to come … for those to come closer, that eventually the incandescent shall materialise and the material world shall draw into its arms and heart the godly enterprise.
Prayer shall best take thee into sleep - the holy thoughts of the divine are best our pillow to nest our worries upon.
May the grace of peace infill the unquiet both day and both night as one gives over to the other.
